SUBJECT:TITLE Parks and Recreation Department - 2016 Second Period ReportBody

The following is a report on the activities pertaining to the Parks and Recreation Services Department from May 1, 2016 to August 31, 2016.

I. DIVISION ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACTIVITIES

1. Parks Services

* The Esquimalt Adventure Park drawings were finalized, the project tendered, and awarded to Story Construction.
* A new playground at Memorial park was developed and complete with a new sidewalk, grassy area, and irrigation.
* Twenty new ornamental lights were installed along the major pathways in Gorge Park.
* Replaced the roofs on the nursery equipment bay and the Saxe Point Park washroom.
* Received donations for 1 picnic table, 2 benches, a lantern, and a light standard valued at $16,400.
* There were 35 tree removal permit applications submitted, 34 permits were approved.
* There were 12 tree pruning permit applications, all 12 permits were approved.
* Park Bookings from May - August 2016:
o Saxe Point Park - 43 bookings - 34 weddings, 9 events/picnics
o Esquimalt Gorge Park - 39 bookings - 6 weddings, 33 events/picnics
o Memorial Park - 21 bookings
o Bullen Park - 104 bookings
o L'ecole Brodeur - 34 bookings
o Fleming Beach / Buxton Green - 9 bookings - 5 weddings, 4 events/picnics
o Captain Jacobson's Park - 2 bookings
o Town Square - 16 bookings
o Freeman Ken Hill Park - 1 booking
o Anderson Park - 1 booking
o Highrock Park - 1 booking

2. Recreation Services

Memberships and Passes
* There were 2,336 passes sold in this reporting period compared to 2,203 in 2015.
Fitness & Sports
* TRX participation increased to 16 participants this year compared to 8 in 2015.
* Mom and Babe Fitness programs increased to 12, up from 3 in 2015.
