RECOMMENDATION:

 

Recommendation

That Council appoint Neal Widdifield as the Acting Fire Chief for Esquimalt and the Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner effective October 4, 2021.

BACKGROUND:

 

Chris Jancowski, Fire Chief, has resigned from the organization effective October 1, 2021. The vacancy will be posted shortly and in the interim Neal Widdifield, Assistant Fire Chief, has agreed to fill the position temporarily until the successful candidate is able to commence. 

 

ISSUES: 

 

1.  Rationale for Selected Option

The Township’s Officers Bylaw, 2011, No. 2777 stipulate that the appointment of the Fire Chief is to be approved by resolution of Council.

 

2.  Organizational Implications

                     The appointment of the Acting Fire Chief is effective October 4, 2021.

There are no financial implications.

 

4.  Sustainability & Environmental Implications

There are no sustainability or environmental implications.

 

5.  Communication & Engagement 

The website and internal communication tools will be updated to reflect the change in this role.

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

1. That Council appoint Neal Widdifield as the Acting Fire Chief for Esquimalt and the Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner effective October 4, 2021.

 

2. That Council provide alternate direction to staff.
