Title
Head Street Parking Restriction - Traffic Order 1298
End

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation
That Council approve the implementation of Traffic Order 1298 "No Parking" along Head Street, as set out in Staff Report EPW-19-010.
Body

RELEVANT POLICY:

Streets and Traffic Regulation Bylaw, 2017, No. 2898

STRATEGIC RELEVANCE:

Healthy and Livable Community - Ensure Multi-modal Traffic Strategies

BACKGROUND:

The Township has received a request from Salish Seaside RV Haven that a no parking restriction be implemented on Head Street. This parking restriction would be from the south terminus of Head Street to Malvern Street (approximately 27 metres). This section of Head Street provides access to the Salish Seaside RV Park. The end of the road has a permanent fence across it. See Attachment 1 for Traffic Order 1298.

ISSUES:

1. Rationale for Selected Option

This location is the main ingress/egress point for the Salish Seaside RV Park. Due to the size of trailers and recreation vehicles that access this property, these units need additional space to complete turning movements from the road to the entrance. By creating a no parking zone in this location, additional space is made available for these types of traffic movements. Staff is recommending that the no parking restriction be applied to this area as per Traffic Order 1298.

2. Organizational Implications

The proposed Traffic Order would be prepared by Engineering and signed by the Corporate Officer and the Director of Engineering and Public Works. Public Works would then install the parking restriction signage along the street. The Traffic Order would be added to Community Safety Services Department (Bylaw) patrol routes for enforcement. These activities would not impose any organizational implications.
