RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation
That Council provide any comments on the Taxi Application by Weekend Taxi Service or on the taxi service in general, as set out in Staff Report ADM-18-035, and direct staff to forward the comments to the Passenger Transportation Board for consideration.

BACKGROUND:

Attached is a Municipal Notice from the Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) advising that 1060358 B.C. Ltd., Trade Name 'Weekend Taxi Service', is applying to change the operation of its one taxi from weekend-only service to a full time 24 hours service.

At the Council meeting on November 26, 2018, Council reviewed Staff Report ADM-18-029 and eight Municipal Notices from PTB for additional taxi licences or changes to existing licences within the Township. As directed by Council, staff provided the following comments to PTB regarding the specific applications and the taxi services in general:

* Council was generally supportive of the applications and in support of providing more taxi services within our community and regionally.
* Council was concerned that only one of the applications would result in an increase in the number of accessible taxis within the community, and would like to see more accessible taxis made available. There is a growing need, as the regional population ages, and accessible taxis and other accessible means of transportation are not readily available for those needy members of our community.
