RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation
That Council amend Council Policy-47 Terms of Reference - Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC), to increase the membership to nine (9) full voting members for a one (1) year period only commencing July 1, 2020 until June 30, 2021.

STRATEGIC RELEVANCE:

Healthy, Livable and Diverse Community: Develop and implement strategies that reduce impact on the environment consistent with our Climate Action Charter goals.

BACKGROUND:

The Township received multiple exceptional applications from the community for the 2020 committee recruitment process prior to the application submission deadline of May 8, 2020. At the In Camera meeting held May 4, Council re-appointed eligible existing committee members based on previous terms performance. At the In Camera meeting held May 25, Council interviewed 7 applicants for the EAC and appointed 3 new members for two year terms commencing July 1 2020 until June 30, 2022. At the In Camera meeting held June 1, Council appointed a fourth new member for a two year term commencing July 1, 2020, until June 30, 2022 to the EAC.

ISSUES:

1. Rationale for Selected Option
The EAC will play a valuable role in providing input towards the Townships Climate Action Plan in collaboration with the Climate Action Charter goals and the Climate Action Planning Project during the next year.
