RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation
That Council consider the Victoria Police Department budget request attached to Staff Report FIN-17-002 and approve an amount for inclusion in the 2017-2021 Financial Plan.

BACKGROUND:

At its January 23, 2017 meeting, Council received a presentation from the Victoria Police Department regarding their 2017 budget. At that time, Council did not provide a decision regarding its approval of the budget request. Since that time, the City of Victoria gave their approval to a portion of the amount being requested. Victoria PD is now seeking a decision from Council regarding the Township's share of these additional costs.

ISSUES:

1. Rationale for Selected Option

The Victoria Police Department has prepared a summary document which outlines their request and rationale for the new supplemental positions. This document is attached to this Staff Report FIN-17-002.

2. Organizational Implications

There are no organizational implications of this decision.

3. Financial Implications

Any approved amount will be included in the Financial Plan and will form part of the calculation when determining the amount of taxation revenue required.
