SUBJECT: 2024-2034 Community Works Funding Agreement
INFORMATION:
During June 2024, a new 10 year agreement was reached between the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) and the federal and provincial governments regarding annual funding support to local governments. While the funding will be provided by the Canadian government, the agreement is with UBCM who will be responsible for the annual funding allocations and the provision of reports to the other levels of government in accordance with the agreement.
The annual funding levels for each local government have been determined using a base amount plus a per person amount based on 2021 census figures. For Esquimalt, this is expected to result in $861,757 being received later this year. This funding level is similar to the annual funding received during the previous 10 year Community Works Funding Agreement.
Prior to any funds being disbursed, UBCM requires a copy of the agreement signed by the Township and to facilitate this, staff are requesting that Council pass a resolution that allows the Mayor and the Corporate Officer to execute the agreement on behalf of the Township.
