TOWNSHIP OF ESQUIMALT MEMORANDUM

MEETING DATE:  June 16, 2025                     Report No. FIN-25-008

TO:                       Committee of the Whole

FROM:                      Ian Irvine, Director of Financial Services

SUBJECT:                      2025 Budget Book

INFORMATION:

In September 2024, Councillors Cavens and Boardman proposed a new initiative around improved budget documentation. This was raised based on the premise that the existing budget process was difficult to understand for the general public and new Council members. The intention was for staff to provide a single document that consolidates most of the budget information, including past, current and projected data.

While the commitment was to prepare a fulsome document for the 2026 taxation year, staff have completed a draft budget book document based on the 2025 financial plan data. This document, attached to the staff report continues to be a work in progress and staff are seeking direction from the Committee regarding improvements and changes it wishes to see in future years.
