TOWNSHIP OF ESQUIMALT MEMORANDUM
MEETING DATE: October 7, 2024 Report No. ADM-24-065
TO: Council
FROM: Vicki Gannon, Director of HR and Community Relations
SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to Officers Bylaw - Probationary Period
INFORMATION:
On September 23, 2024, Council approved the recommended changes to Council Policy PER-05 - Terms and Conditions of Employment for Officers, Managers and Exempt Employees.
The changes to the policy included reducing the probationary period for Officers, managers and exempt employees from a one-year period, to six months.
The Officers Bylaw, Section 13 currently outlines: “Each Officer shall serve a probationary period of one year unless otherwise provided by the terms of his or her appointment or contract or employment.”
It is recommended that Section 13 be deleted in its entirety as this information is stated in Council Policy, PER-05. If Council wishes to approve this amendment, the following motion would be appropriate:
That Council give three readings to Officers Bylaw, 2011, No. 2777, Amendment Bylaw, 2024, No. 3149.
Should Council wish to make further amendments to the Bylaw No. 3149, Council will need to give first reading, introduce second reading, make the amendment or amendments, and then give third reading.
