RECOMMENDATION:

 

Recommendation

That Council provide a resolution in support of a grant application for up to $6 million to the Canada Community Building Fund BC - Strategic Priorities Fund:  Capital Infrastructure Stream and authorize the Mayor and Corporate Officer to execute any agreements related to a successful grant application, as outlined in Staff Report No. CSS-22-008

STRATEGIC RELEVANCE:

 

Healthy, Livable and Diverse Community: fully utilize the McLoughlin amenity funds to maximum potential 

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The Canada Community-Building Fund provides predictable, long-term, and stable funding to local governments in British Columbia for investment in infrastructure and capacity building projects. Over the 10 years of the Agreement, British Columbia is expected to receive a transfer of $3.052 billion in funding from Canada.

 

Fire halls and fire stations are an eligible category of infrastructure supported by this fund.

 

The application due date is June 30th, 2022.

 

 

ISSUES: 

 

1.  Rationale for Selected Option

This is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of funding that can be used to offset some of the costs of the construction of the new Fire Hall portion of the PSB.

 

2.  Organizational Implications

Staff time and consultant time will be used to complete and submit this application.

 

3.  Financial Implications

There are no costs to submitting the application and there is potential to receive up to $6 million in grant funding towards construction costs.

 

4.  Sustainability & Environmental Implications

There are no sustainability or environmental implications.

 

5.  Communication & Engagement 

Should the grant application be successful, details surrounding the funding and funding amount will be communicated via social media channels and included on the PSB specific portion of the website.

 

ALTERNATIVES:
