RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation
That Council directs staff to relocate the sidewalk to the north side of Wychbury Avenue with an increase of $6,000 to the project budget that will be taken from the Community Works Reserve Account.

BACKGROUND:

The Capital Sidewalk Program is an annual program carried out by the Township. Its purpose is construct sidewalks in various locations within the Township with the goal to increase the connectivity of the sidewalk network. This will allow residents to transit through the Township from various locations utilizing a connected network of sidewalks and promote another mode of transportation other than vehicles.

For the 2017 project, the Program identified Wychbury Avenue between Kinver Street and Lampson Street. The scope of the project is to provide a 1.8 metre wide sidewalk along the south side of the road. The south side was identified based on connecting the existing sidewalk segment within the block.

Notification of the construction of the Project was delivered to the residents on June 7, 2017 (See Attachment 1). In response to this notification, several residents voiced objections to the sidewalk location (see Attachment 2). A face to face discussion was also held with a long term crossing guard for Macaulay Elementary School.



ISSUES:
