SUBJECT: Fire trucks sounding air horns during Wakey Wakey Procession for Buccaneer Days
INFORMATION:
Each year, in support of Buccaneer Days, Esquimalt Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) assists the Lions Club with the Wakey Wakey call to remind residents to participate in Buccaneer Days and to encourage people to attend the Saturday morning pancake breakfast.
The fire department provides trucks driving along a predetermined route through residential streets sounding their airhorns and sirens, and using PA systems to announce “Wakey, Wakey!” beginning around 7:30 a.m. and lasting for approximately 90 minutes.
The Lions Club has requested EFRS participate in the Wakey Wakey procession scheduled to occur on May 11, 2024. Council is requested to consider endorsing the invitation of the Lions Club for EFRS to take part again this year.
Should Council wish to endorse the request, the following motion would be appropriate:
That Council endorse the annual Wakey Wakey procession in support of the Lions Club and Buccaneer Days on Saturday, May 11, 2024, beginning around 7:30 a.m. and lasting for approximately 90 minutes.
